Round Top view

The Nature Conservancy of Canada’s (NCC’s) Green Mountains Nature Reserve (GMNR), at over 78 km2 , is the largest privately held conservation area in Quebec. It was created to protect the natural legacy of the region and to ensure important cross-border connectivity.

Nature Conservancy of Canada, a non-profit non-governmental organization, is the owner of the property of the reserve.

Management and development of the reserve are conducted in collaboration with Appalachian Corridor, Parc d’environnement naturel de Sutton (PENS) and Les Sentiers de l’Estrie.

Why protect the GMNR?

  • It is part of one of the last forest massifs over 100 km2 on private property in southern Quebec
  • Its rich biodiverse ecosystems are home to several species at risk
  • It provides access to exceptionally beautiful vistas
  • People can connect with nature here
  • It is one of the most important connectivity zones in the Appalachian Mountain range
